Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday, formerly known as Decoration Day, that commemorates men and women who perished while in military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include casualties of any war or military action.

Memorial Day is also the traditional beginning of summer here. I hope everyone gets their warm weather activities, cook outs, etc. off to a spankingly smart start.

Thank you so very much for printing this rememberance. We are free to do what we want today because of the men and women who fought for our rights to do so. We may disagree with THIS war, but I respect every man and woman who is there, protecting our way of life, today. May God bless each and every one of them and keep them safe.
