In the real Archie comics it was Veronica that got spanked.
My favorite strip is one Archie’s Double Digest, where Ronnie’s father threatens to spank her with a ping pong paddle if she embarrasses him at any time over the next few days. Well bad luck happens and she is photographed by the newspaper in a silly situation. The next day her father blows his top when he reads the paper. She is ready with the paddle in the hopes that he will go easy on her, “I-I bought you the ping pong paddle, daddy.”
However she is saved at the last minute from a sound spanking (in full view of the butler) by a phone call that clears everything up.
